(Santa Ana)—The Santa Ana College (SAC) Arts Gallery is hosting an exhibit titled “Flowerscapes,” featuring a collection of exquisite drawings and paintings by Carol Goldmark. She is a widely exhibited and collected Orange County artist who is known for her compelling artwork of decaying and dying flowers.
“In my drawings and paintings, flowers are metaphors for life and death, beauty and decay, the passage of time and the gradual disintegration of human flesh, bones and organs,” said Goldmark. “Using only live flowers, which are constantly changing as I work, I draw them in all stages, from bud and bloom to decay and disintegration, and see therein a mirror image of myself and of the world around me.”
The exhibit, which is free to the public, will run through December 7. The SAC Arts Gallery is located at the Santora Building, 207 N. Broadway, Suite Q, Santa Ana, CA 92701. Gallery hours are Fridays, noon to 4:00 p.m. The gallery is also open for monthly ArtWalks on the first Saturdays, November 2 and December 7, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. and by appointment.
Goldmark received her B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art and her M.A. from Columbia University. Her work has been featured in a number of solo and group exhibitions throughout California and the United States. She was awarded a grant from the California Arts Council La Habra Children's Museum, she served as a Doctoral Teaching Fellow at Ball State University, and she earned Graduate Assistantship from Columbia University. She has worked as an adjunct professor in the art department at Fullerton College and as an artist-in-residence at the University of California, Irvine.
