Santiago Canyon College Holds Season of Hope Concert on November 19

(Orange, CA)—Santiago Canyon College (SCC) invites the community to a celebration of diversity, “Season of Hope” holiday concert on Saturday, November 19. There are two performances at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. This event is produced by Dr. Binh Vu, SCC assistant professor of music.

A celebration of diversity will feature the SCC Collegiate Choir, SCC Community Orchestra, SCC Community Chorale, El Modena High School Chorus, and Hai Duong Music Children’s Chorus. There will be two guest conductors, one for the show at 4:00 p.m. and one for 7:00 p.m. Dr. Arlene Satele, SCC vice president of administrative services, will be the guest conductor during the 4:00 p.m. show for the national anthem. Arianna Barrios, Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees member, will guest conduct the national anthem at the 7:00 p.m. show. The director of El Modena’s chorus is Tracy Solis and the director of Hai Duong Music Children’s Chorus is Lee Lee Truong.

During the concert, the song, “Bring Him Home” from the musical, Les Misérables, written by William Nicholson, Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg, and Herbert Kretzmer, will be featured. The song will be dedicated to our servicemen and women overseas and at home in the hopes that they return home safe and sound. The other music performed will keep with the theme of the concert and celebrate love, joy, peace, and faith in humanity in this season of hope.

“Season of Hope” will take place at Santiago Canyon College, in H-106, 8045 E. Chapman Avenue, Orange, CA 92869. General admission tickets are $15. About Dr. Binh Vu
As a conductor and music director, Vu serves multiple ethnic communities in the U.S., Vietnam, and throughout Europe. In addition to teaching at SCC where he serves as the chair of the Performing Arts Department, Vu serves as part-time music director at Laguna Niguel Presbyterian Church and as the artistic director of the Ngan Khoi Chorus, a community chorus serving the Vietnamese communities in Southern California from 2004 to 2013. In December 2013, he was named an Everyday Hero by The Orange County Register. Vu has guest conducted several orchestras in Europe, including the Saint Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra (Russia), the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of Maikop (Russia), Ploiesti State Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania), and others. Vu earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral and Orchestral Conducting from The Claremont Graduate University, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from California State University, Northridge.
