(Santa Ana, CA) This April, the Rancho Santiago Community College District joins the State Chancellor's Office in celebrating California Community Colleges Month. As a united effort to foster and encourage community awareness of the community college system, Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College will be reaching out with information on the enrollment process, student services, Dual Enrollment, career training, free tuition, transfer opportunities, financial aid, and more. The colleges will also continue their focus on investing in academic and support programs currently benefitting students on campus.
During California Community Colleges Month, both colleges will welcome surrounding communities and potential students onto campus to participate in numerous events and activities. High school students will tour and explore degree and career opportunities through Early Welcome and Early Decision programs. Later this month, the general public is invited to attend Santiago Canyon College's 2023 Community Science Night.
Leaders from both colleges and the district will continue to engage with city officials and community partners to address student needs, eliminate barriers, and ensure student success. Outreach includes a collaborative luncheon at Santiago Canyon College with Principals and Leadership from Orange Unified School District discussing the importance of Community College partnerships.
"As we celebrate California Community Colleges Month across the state, we are all given the opportunity to remember and reignite the understanding of our purpose," said RSCCD Chancellor Marvin Martinez. "Community colleges, for many, make the impossible... possible. Whether through student services, academic pathways, basic needs, partnerships, financial assistance, or guidance—students have entrusted us to support them on their journey. This month and through the year, we remain committed to our students, ensuring their voices are heard, and their needs are met."
As part of California Community Colleges Month, statewide advocacy efforts, including LGBTQ+ Summit (April 19-20), Black Student Success Week (April 24-28), and California Community Colleges Board of Governors legislative advocacy day (April 13) will also garner collaborative support for underrepresented students up and down the state.
