Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees Elects Board Officers and Swears in Incumbent Trustees

(Santa Ana, CA) – At its recent annual installation meeting, the Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) Board of Trustees elected new board officers for 2019 and three returning members were sworn in and took their seats on the Board.

Phillip E. Yarbrough was elected President of the Board. Elected to the Board in 1996, Yarbrough is in his sixth term as an elected member representing Trustee Area 6 (formerly District 3). He currently serves as the chairperson of the Board Fiscal/Audit Committee and a member of the Board Safety & Security Committee. He also represents the California Community Colleges by serving as a board member on the County of Orange Redevelopment Oversight Agency. In addition, Mr. Yarbrough is a contributing writer for the Orange County Register where he writes on family, social and policy issues.

Claudia C. Alvarez was elected Vice President. Raised in the community, Ms. Alvarez attended local public schools. Ms. Alvarez cur​rently serves as chairperson of the Board Policy and Board Safety & Security Committees, and representative to the Orange County School Boards Association and Nominating Committee on School District Organization.

Zeke Hernandez was elected Board Clerk. Currently retired, Hernandez was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2016 for Trustee Area 1. Born Santa Ana, Trustee Hernandez has been a resident of Trustee Area 1 for over 50 years. He currently serves as a member of the Board Communications, Board Facilities, Board Fiscal and Audit Review, and Board Legislative Committees, and representative to the Orange County Community College Legislative Task Force.

Incumbent member Lawrence “Larry” R Labrado was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board in January 1994 and elected to represent Trustee Area 4 (formerly District 3) in November 1994. He is currently serving as chairperson of the Board Facilities and Board Policy Committees.

John R. Hanna was appointed to the Board in January 1998 and has served as an elected member representing Trustee Area 2 for the past 19 years. He currently serves as chairperson of the Board Legislative Committee and a member of the Board Policy Committee.

Chancellor Raul Rodriguez was designated as Secretary and Vice Chancellor Enrique Perez was designated Assistant Secretary. The Board also approved their 2019 meeting calendar, which may be found on the district website at www.rsccd.edu.
