Media event to be held Thurs., Dec. 5 at Santiago Canyon College
WHAT: The Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) is sharing the gift of reading with the youngsters enrolled at Santiago Canyon College’s (SCC) Child Development Center.
The Child Development Centers are training sites for SCC, Santa Ana College and other local college and university students in the early childhood development and human services fields. Students observe and participate in the classrooms to fulfill course requirements and gain practical experience in working with young children.
RSCCD Trustee Arianna P. Barrios, RSCCD Chancellor Marvin Martinez and SCC President John Hernandez, Ph.D. will read aloud Good Night Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann, The Crayon Box that Talked by Shane DeRolf, and Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney. Following story time, every child will be given the gift of a book and a copy of RSCCD’sTips for Reading Aloud with Children.
WHY: Reading ignites children’s intelligence and imagination and helps prepare them for elementary school and beyond.

About the Santiago Canyon College Child Development Center
The Santiago Canyon College Child Development Center (SCC CDC) serves children from two to five years of age. The center offers a full-day program from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The curriculum used by RSCCD Child Development Services is the High Scope Curriculum, which is based on active learning. We believe that children learn best through hands-on experiences with people, materials, events, and ideas. The RSCCD Child Development Center teachers support the children's current level of thinking and challenge them to advance to the next stage through support and differentiated instruction.
