What:
Orange City Fire Department will conduct live vertical ventilation drills from the rooftop of the former Orange Education Center.
The building was offered by Rancho Santiago Community College District to the Orange City Fire Department to enable local fire fighters the rare opportunity to practice fire-fighting techniques in “real-life” conditions.
“Rarely do we get the chance to practice cutting the eight-foot hole in a structure’s roof that’s required to properly ventilate a structural fire,” said Orange City Fire Captain, Chuck Stein. “This is great opportunity for our firefighters to get up on an actual roof and practice their skills – as opposed to using props – which makes the training infinitely more effective."
Who:
In addition to the Orange City Fire Department, 150 to 200 fire fighters from Anaheim, Costa Mesa and Fullerton are expected to participate in the training.
Best Time for Media:
While training will be held Sept. 23-26, media is encouraged to attend Wed., Sept. 25, at 2:00 p.m.
Where:
Orange Education Center
1465 N. Batavia St., Orange, CA 92867
