Santa Ana, Calif. – Santa Ana College’s Communication Students 206 Gender Communications class invites students and members of the public to its third annual Drag-u-cation event on April 12.
Drag-u-cation: The Fierce Queens Academy introduces students to the history of drag queens around the world, includes a candid Q&A with local and world famous queens, and is part of a series of gender communication lectures in Professor Lance Lockwood’s classes. The drag queen panel will answer audience and pre-scripted questions about their craft before a short intermission where they will prepare for a 45 minute show, giving the audience the opportunity to experience drag outside of what they’ve seen in the media.
“This is an opportunity to meet and have a candid conversation with drag queens, to see more than just what they are seeing on TV,” said Lockwood. “The girls are very open about their drag and have always been willing to explain their skillset. They are living proof of what my father always told me growing up as a gay man, ‘Stand tall and walk with purpose.”
Drag-u-cation: The Fierce Queens Academy will be emceed by Alexander Rodriguez, host of “On the Rocks with Alexander” one of the largest LGBTQ radio shows in the country, on UBNRadio.com Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
“I am very excited to be able to bring this to Santa Ana College,” said Lockwood. “The campus has never seen or experienced something like this. This is a third annual drag event, but it’s the first time it will be held on stage and not in my classroom. This will be the first drag show ever hosted at Santa Ana College. The LGBTQ community in Santa Ana is flourishing and this will be a celebration of one of our crafts.”
