(Orange, CA) – Thanks to the generous support of community members, alumni, faculty and staff who have contributed to the Named Annual Scholarship Program, the Santiago Canyon College Foundation will disburse over $102,000 in named scholarships to students in the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year. Scholarships distributed under this program represent only a portion of all private scholarship aid the Foundation disburses annually; last year, including Named Annual Scholarships, the Foundation distributed over $262,000 in private scholarship support to students.

Students who will receive Named Annual Scholarships this year plan to continue their studies at Santiago Canyon College (SCC) or transfer to four-year universities to progress towards higher academic degrees. The current cohort of transfer students was accepted at a wide range of public and private, in-state and out-of-state universities, including Chapman University, University of Southern California, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, University of California Berkeley, University of California Los Angeles, Cornell University and New York University (NYU). Named Annual Scholarships will also be awarded to students taking classes in the Division of Continuing Education or transitioning from Continuing Education to a for-credit college degree or certification program at SCC.

With a minimum donation of $500 per year for five consecutive years, an individual or business can establish a Named Annual Scholarship. Individuals can name a scholarship in honor or memory of their family or a loved one; businesses sponsor these scholarships to support students and highlight their companies’ commitments to corporate good citizenship. “When we heard about the Named Annual Scholarship Program at SCC, we saw a great opportunity to support students who demonstrate initiative and get involved in their communities, even as they face their own financial and personal challenges,” said Tushar Puri, CEO of Pegasus One, a Fullerton-based company specializing in custom software development that recently established a named annual scholarship. “We believe a college degree empowers these students to bring their unique perspectives to solving societal problems, and want to encourage them with our scholarship support.”
