Santiago Canyon College Foundation Names Beatriz "Betty" Valencia As New Board Member

(Orange, CA) - The Santiago Canyon College Foundation (SCCF) has appointed Beatriz “Betty” Valencia to its board of directors. The foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, raises funds to support Santiago Canyon College and its students through the leadership of a twelve-member volunteer board of directors.

Ms. Valencia brings to the foundation board many years of volunteer experience, as well as experience in business administration and community organizing. Originally born in Mexico City and the youngest of 12 children, she moved to Orange County when she was six years old. While working for the Tustin Unified School District during her twenties, she dedicated over ten summers to volunteer community outreach and children’s camp coordination in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Through volunteering, she learned the value of community outreach.

Ms. Valencia received associate degrees in liberal arts studies and speech communication from Santa Ana College (SAC). She then transferred to Cal State Fullerton (CSUF), where she earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communication. After graduation from CSUF, she returned to Las Cruces. Inspired by her work in the community, she obtained her master’s degree in organizational communication with a minor in business administration from New Mexico State University. She then returned to Orange County, and is currently Vice President of Operations, Business & Finance for a local firm. In addition to her professional pursuits and volunteer work, she has returned to academia and is currently in the third year of a doctoral program in leadership studies in the Education Department at Chapman University.

“I am very pleased that Betty Valencia has joined the foundation board. She brings a great deal of value to us, where she can combine her business acumen and her great outreach to our community. I look forward to working with her,” said Larry Cohn, SCCF Board President.
Ms. Valencia is married to her longtime partner, Laura. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, mural work, music, gardening, media arts, and spending time with her family.
