(Orange, CA)— After the success of Santiago Canyon College’s first-ever student-run Research Symposium last year, SCC students will hold the college’s second annual symposium on Friday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in SCC’s Science Center, Room 105 at 8045 E. Chapman Ave., Orange, CA 92869.
Participating students can qualify for research awards, build their transfer resume, meet with faculty mentors and gain research experience that will assist them in their continued pursuit of higher education. Students also develop deeper relationships with professors in an environment where they can ask questions, explore new topics, gain additional knowledge.
In all, 25 SCC students will present their research on everything from education in America to measuring happiness; and terrorism and extremism in the Horn of Africa to how gender influences American interpersonal relationships in a structured, conference setting.
“We are very excited about this year’s event,” said Lacy Hedenberg, SCC’s honors counselor who is co-facilitating the symposium with Tiffany Gause, SCC’s assistant professor of sociology. “The number of presenters has doubled since last year and many students are currently developing research to present next year.”
Students will participate in individual, small group (two students), large group (three to five students) or performance presentations and students will not only moderate the symposium, but run the event.
