(Orange)—The community is invited to attend Santiago Canyon College’s Holiday Showcase: A Celebration of the Holiday Season in Several Cultural Contexts on Saturday, November 30. This special event is directed by Dr. Binh Vu, Santiago Canyon College (SCC) assistant professor of music, and Dr. Larry Ball, retired SCC music professor.
The Holiday Showcase will feature the SCC Collegiate Choir, the SCC Chamber Choir, and the SCC Community Festival Orchestra. Special guests will include the Ngan Khoi Chorus, a community chorus serving the Vietnamese communities in Southern California; the Laguna Niguel Presbyterian Church Festival Choir; and the Orange High School Dance Ensemble under the direction of Carrie Woodson.
“My dream is for Santiago Canyon College to become a place where local talents can come and blend together in perfect harmony,” said Vu. “With time, SCC will be synonymous with a cultural mix of music, dance, and other performing arts for the entire community to savor.”
The festive showcase will include a wide range of music to appeal to the entire family. Featured pieces include classical favorites by Rossini, Strauss, Handel; as well as modern compositions by Frank Loesser, John Adams, Alan Menken, David Clydesdale, and more. As a special treat, Sheryl Donchey, SCC theatre arts instructor and retired Santa Ana College theatre arts professor, is serving as the showcase’s production stage director. Under her direction, holiday vignettes will feature appearances by Rancho Santiago Community College District theatre arts students, as well as a cameo appearance by none other than Ebenezer Scrooge. Masters of ceremony for the evening’s entertainment are Melinda Womack, SCC communications professor; Martin Stringer, SCC dean of business, mathematics and science; and Christine Cummings, SCC theatre arts instructor.
The Performing Arts Holiday Showcase gets underway at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30 at the SCC Gymnasium, 8045 E. Chapman Avenue, Orange, CA 92869.
