Santiago Canyon College New Board Member Rebecca Franklin Martinez

(Orange, CA) – The Santiago Canyon College Foundation (SCCF) has announced the appointment of Orange resident and long-time OUSD educator and administrator Rebecca Martinez to its Board of Directors.

rebecca franklin martinezAs the non-profit organization, SCCF is exclusively dedicated to supporting Santiago Canyon College through the fundraising and outreach efforts of its volunteer board.

“With the addition of Rebecca to the SCC Foundation board, we get an energetic, knowledgeable person whose background in education and involvement in the Orange community will be invaluable to our growth,” said Larry Cohn, board president of the foundation.

Martinez brings to the foundation board many years of experience as a teacher and administrator in the Orange Unified School District. She started at El Modena High School as a Special Education Instructional Aide. After completing her BA and teaching credentials, she became an English teacher at El Modena, actively participating in important partnerships such as the Collaborative Technology Program and other campus advisory positions. After completing her administrator’s credentials, she rose to Assistant Principal at the high school and, subsequently, to principal. She retired from El Modena in 2013, and currently works as an adjunct faculty member at Chapman University. She is also co-owner of Brick, LLC, a curriculum design company located in Orange.

Martinez received her associate degree in liberal studies from Santiago Canyon College before transferring to Chapman University, where she completed a BA in Liberal Studies, a multiple subjects teaching credential, and an MA in Special Education. She later returned to Chapman to complete her educational administration credential.
Martinez has been married for 40 years, with two married adult children (both graduates from El Modena High School) and four grandchildren. In retirement, she enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, and spending time with family and her two dogs.
