Santiago Canyon College Offers Tuition-Free Education for First Two Years of College

College extends tuition-free education from one year to two years

for first-time, full-time students

(Orange, CA) – Santiago Canyon College (SCC) today announced the extension of its SCC Promise Scholarship program. The scholarship now provides first-time, full-time students with two years of tuition-free education – as opposed to one year.

“Research indicates that students who commit to attending college on a full-time basis (12 or more units per semester) are more likely to complete and graduate,” said SCC President Dr. John Hernandez. “By eliminating the cost barrier of paying for college, students can focus on their studies and attain their goals at Santiago Canyon College.”

SCC Promise awards are not based on family income. Every student who applies for the Promise Scholarship will qualify. Students only need to be a 2020 high school graduate or equivalent (first-time college student), be a California resident or AB540 eligible, and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (using SCC code 036957).

To remain eligible for the program, students must complete 12 or more units each semester for both years, maintain a 2.0 GPA, meet with a mentor in the First Year Support Center, and attend a workshop designed for student success. SCC is committed to providing students with the support and guidance needed to reach their educational goals.

Students with verified disabilities that impact their ability to maintain 12 units may qualify for the SCC Promise Scholarship pending approval from the Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) administrator.

SCC Promise Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the allocated funding has been depleted.
