(Orange, CA) -The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Foundation has again received a $25,000 grant from Edison International to support scholarships for full-time students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) majors at Santiago Canyon College (SCC). Over seven consecutive years, Edison has generously donated a total of $175,000 for these scholarships.
“Santiago Canyon College is committed to providing affordable, high quality training in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to students from all backgrounds,” said college president John Hernandez, Ph.D. “Edison’s investment in STEM scholarships helps increase access to these challenging degree programs. It also helps us expand the number of students who graduate on time and who are prepared to meet the academic rigors they will face in a four-year university STEM program.”
Students receiving Edison’s STEM scholarships can often reduce the time they must spend working, giving them more time to focus on their studies and increasing their chances of successfully transferring to a four-year university and completing a degree.
“Scholarships help our students spend more of their limited time on their studies, which increases their chances of successfully achieving their educational goals. At SCC, we welcome financial investments in scholarships by community partners like Edison. These investments in our students increase student success rates,” said Hernandez.
Edison International shareholders underwrite community support programs like SCC’s STEM scholarship program. Southern California Edison customers do not provide charitable support through their utility bills.
