Santiago Canyon College Women’s Soccer Team Claims Fourth California State Title

(Orange, CA) -- For the fourth time in program history and second year in a row, the Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Women’s Soccer team has claimed the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women’s Soccer State Championship.

Forward Brianna Diaz (Anaheim, CA) delivered a pair of crosses from each side of the goal for second-half scores by forward Tara Hansel (Corona, CA) in the 58th minute and midfielder Ashley Roskelly (Placentia, CA) in the 72nd minute as SCC posted a 2-0 victory over San Diego Mesa College on Dec. 8, at De Anza College in Cupertino, CA. Diaz ended the season with 12 assists, while the goals were Hansel’s ninth and Roskelly’s eighth this year.

Led by head coach Ian Woodhead, SCC finished with a 19-3-2 record.

“Both the coaching staff and athletic trainers deserve tremendous credit for their quality and detail, but in the end, it was the heart of this team that made the difference in the play-offs,” said Woodhead. “Backs against the wall, and written-off by many, the entire squad rose to the occasion each and every time to take the SCC Women’s Soccer program to new heights.”

SCC had 12 shots in each half and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks, with six occurring in the second half.
