October 19 undocumented student conference a first for the college

(Orange, CA) -- Santiago Canyon College (SCC) invites prospective students and their families to attend its first DREAMer Conference on Saturday, October 19.

Santiago Canyon College recognizes and celebrates the beauty and diversity in our community, including undocumented and mixed status families. Together, we work to ensure that all students have access and support as they continue their education and make a better life for themselves and their families.

“We want Dreamers to know they’re welcome at Santiago Canyon College and we’re committed to providing an environment that fosters their success in and out of the classroom,” said SCC President Dr. John Hernandez. “We are committed to ensuring educational opportunity and success for all students.”

Presentations will be available in both English and Spanish and both breakfast and lunch will be provided to attendees. Student breakout sessions to include workshops on knowing their rights as a Dreamer, community college and university resources for undocumented students and overcoming mental health issues, in addition to an SCC student and transfer panel. Parent breakout sessions will also include workshops on knowing their rights and mental health issues. Parent sessions will additionally feature a parent panel and information on SCC resources for undocumented students.

The free event is open to high school students, community college students and their parents. Workshops will be held at SCC, 8045 E. Chapman Ave. in Orange in room E-203, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register at www.sccollege.edu/dreamerconference or call (714) 628-5085 for more information.
