SANTA ANA, Calif. — The Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) Board of Trustees will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and recognize members of the RSCCD community who have dedicated themselves to serving and protecting others during its Monday, Sept. 14, meeting.
The recognition will honor first responder alumni from Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College, as well as members of RSCCD’s District Safety and Security team, highlighting the many ways the District community contributes to the safety and well-being of Orange County.
Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks, including 403 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to help others. Twenty-five years later, RSCCD will remember those who were lost while recognizing the generations of first responders who have continued that tradition of service.
RSCCD has a longstanding connection to public safety. For more than 50 years, Santa Ana College has partnered with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department through the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy and offers programs that prepare students for careers in fire technology and other public safety fields. Across the District, students and alumni serve as firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical professionals, health care workers and other public safety professionals.
That commitment to service is also reflected within RSCCD. District Safety and Security professionals work every day to protect students, employees and visitors and help coordinate responses to incidents throughout the District.
During the Sept. 14 ceremony, the Board of Trustees will recognize SAC and SCC alumni and District Safety and Security employees whose service exemplifies courage, professionalism and a commitment to helping others. The identities and stories of this year’s honorees will be shared during the recognition ceremony.
The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in the RSCCD Board Room, 2323 N. Broadway, Santa Ana.
