Show Runs From June 2-4 on SCC Campus

(Orange, CA)—Greek gods, family rivalry and revenge will be on full display in Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Theatre Department’s production of Nicholas Rudall’s translation of Greek playwright Euripides’ The Bacchae. The play opens onFriday, June 2 in Room D-121 on SCC’s campus, located at 8045 E. Chapman, Orange, CA, 92869.

The Bacchae begins as the Greek god Dionysus returns to his hometown Thebes hoping that the city will worship him as a god. However, his cousin Pentheus, who now rules Thebes, refuses to worship Dionysus. The play follows Dionysus as he plays out his vengeance on the city and the royal family.

Opening night is set for Friday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. with additional shows set for Saturday June 3 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 4 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the play are available for students, staff and seniors for $12, the general public for $15 and at the door prior to each show for $15 prior. Pre-sale tickets are available for purchase at the SCC Bookstore. This performance contains adult themes and is not recommended for children under 13.

"Working with these actors has been a truly rewarding experience-- watching them develop a love for the classical story and a relationship with each of the characters,” said The Bacchae director and SCC theatre instructor Kate Stone. “In acting, you talk about never judging your character, but instead, seeking to understand their perspective of the world, no matter how different it might be from your own.”

“These actors, throughout the rehearsal process, have brought a renewed perspective to the text, and have truly engaged with the world of these characters," she added.
