(Orange, CA) — Santiago Canyon College (SCC) scored national accolades as it was ranked #13 among the 50 Best Community Colleges for the 2016-2017 school year by College Choice, a leading authority in college and university rankings and resources.

SCC tallied a score of 86.48 and was the only school in Orange County to garner Top 50 status. Additionally, SCC was one of four California institutions to be named on the list that included Santa Barbara City College, Los Medanos College and Chaffey College.

"This is an outstanding honor for SCC to be named one of the Top 50 Community Colleges in the country by College Choice," said SCC Interim President John Hernandez. "It's affirming to see that college-wide efforts are having an impact on student success. This national recognition validates the overall student experience at SCC and the commitment of our faculty and staff."

College Choice used the data from the Aspen Institute's College Excellence Program, pay scale and individual colleges for its scoring system in compiling the list for the 50 best community colleges nationwide.

First-year retention rates, three-year graduation rates, credentials awarded, and other related statistics were combined to create an institutional performance score. Examining the number of non-traditional and minority students, percentage of Pell grants, and minority graduation rates calculated a diversity score. Lastly, College Choice looked at the ratio between in-district tuition rates and potential salary providing a sense of the return on investment.
