Supporters of the Rancho Santiago Community College District have long known about the value of an education provided at Santa Ana College (SAC) and Santiago Canyon College (SCC), but moreover, the talent produced by the two colleges. Chancellor Martinez along with the Board of Trustees and District leadership take advantage of opportunities to celebrate the talent and achievements of current students and alumni from far and wide.

On March 12, 2022, district leadership did just that in celebrating Santiago Canyon College alum Laura Peralta during the Latino Alumni Association annual scholarship gala. The event is the association's premier fundraiser where exemplary alumni are recognized for their personal achievements, philanthropy, and contributions to the University of Southern California (USC) community.

Peralta was recognized with the prestigious Legacy Award during the event, noting her many accomplishments in her career at Citi Bank and her efforts to form viable and impactful public/private partnerships. Peralta credits her stellar education from both SCC and USC to her success and attributes her desire to give back in support of students, to her background as an immigrant from Argentina and learning the English language at 10 years of age.

In attendance, and full of pride were RSCCD leadership, including Chancellor Martinez and SCC President Pamela Ralston who said, “Laura is an example of the potential our students have in overcoming great odds, yet achieve greatness. Laura not only was accepted and transferred to USC, but thrived. She continues to pay it forward for students like herself, and we can relate to that desire to give back. Alumni like Laura Peralta, make us at SCC, proud."
