Canvas Incident Updates
Canvas Incident Updates
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
We are pleased to share an update to improve student account access and support. Starting today, our 24/7 student support line can assist students with multifactor authentication (MFA) setups and resets directly. Students who are locked out of their accounts or are experiencing MFA issues can now receive help any time, day, or night.
For students: If you need assistance with MFA, please contact the 24/7 support line at 714‑480‑7407. (This line will be helping all students. Please disregard the initial message referring to SAC Continuing Education Students only)
For faculty and staff: If a student contacts you with an MFA issue, please direct them first to the 24/7 support line above. If additional assistance is needed after that, students may then be referred to the ITS Helpdesk at 714‑564‑4357, ext. 0
This enhancement is part of our ongoing effort to reduce access delays and better support students while maintaining strong security practices.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Dear students, faculty, and staff,
We are pleased to share that significant progress has been made in assisting students with Canvas access and multi‑factor authentication (MFA) setup. Our ITS team has worked diligently over the past several days to reduce the number of outstanding requests, and we are now in a strong position to provide support more quickly and efficiently.
If you are still experiencing issues accessing Canvas or need help with MFA or your password, we encourage you to reach out to ITS today (714‑564‑4357, ext. 0). We currently have the capacity to assist you, and our team is actively working through the remaining requests and returning calls.

Dear students, faculty, and staff,
As Canvas services have been restored, our Helpdesk is experiencing a significantly higher than normal volume of support requests, particularly from students who need assistance with password resets and multi‑factor authentication (MFA).
We want to assure you that ITS is taking immediate steps to support our community. We are actively increasing support capacity and streamlining our workflow in coordination with our 24/7 support partner to assist as many people as quickly as possible. While these efforts ramp up, you may experience longer wait times than usual. We appreciate your patience during this period.
For students, using a text message as a backup verification method for MFA is the simplest way to get started with MFA:

Dear students, faculty, and staff,
The District’s Information Technology Services department continues to work on performing the technical adjustments recommended by the State Chancellor’s Office and the CCC Security Center. At this point, we anticipate at least 12 hours worth of work before system access can be restored. Once Canvas is up and running, there is additional work that will need to be done to finish our efforts. We will provide an additional update by 5 p.m.
Canvas Outage – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Canvas is currently unavailable due to an ongoing cybersecurity‑related incident involving Instructure, the company that provides the Canvas learning management system used by colleges and universities nationwide. As part of its security response and investigation, Instructure has temporarily placed Canvas into maintenance mode.
At this time, there is no indication that RSCCD systems outside of Canvas have been impacted. This is a vendor‑level issue affecting institutions that use Canvas and is not a district/college‑specific incident.
Based on statewide provided information, Instructure placed Canvas into maintenance mode as part of its response to the cybersecurity incident. This allows Instructure to secure the environment, investigate the issue, and validate system integrity before restoring access.

Sensitive personal information
Unknown links or attachments
At this time, Instructure has not provided a confirmed restoration timeline. As is common during active cybersecurity investigations, timelines may change as systems are secured and validated.
