Coronavirus (COVID-19) | ITS Phone and Voicemail FAQs

Please click on any question below to see its corresponding answer.

(1) How can I access my voice mail from home?

(2) How can I change my voice mail greeting from home?

(3) Can I forward my work phone to my personal phone?

We do not recommend forwarding your work phone. Our phone system has a limited number of concurrent calls it can handle. Every time a phone is forwarded two lines are taken: one for the incoming call to the work phone and one for the outbound forwarded call.

In lieu of forwarding, we recommend that you use the Cisco Jabber application. Cisco Jabber is a software that allows you to use your District phone line(s) to send/receive calls, check voicemail, and access other phone related features from your desktop or mobile device.

Please follow the steps in this guide to download, install and use Cisco Jabber: https://www.rsccd.edu/Departments/Information-Technology-Services/Documents/End%20User%20Training/Cisco-Jabber-Usage-Guide.pdf

(4) My department or division has a main number that needs to be answered. Can it be forwarded?

Yes, please contact the contact the ITS Helpdesk to go over your requirements at:
helpdesk@rsccd.edu
714-564-HELP (4357)

(5) I need to make outbound calls from my personal cell phone. However, I do not want people to get my personal number through caller id. What can I do?

We recommend that you dial *67 to block your caller id when calling outbound. To do this, simply dial *67 followed by the 10-digit number you need to call. For example, if you need to call 714-564-4357, you would dial *67714-564-4357.
Note: If you do this, you may want to change your voice mail greeting and state that calls will be returned from a restricted number and ask people to ensure they are able to receive this type of call.

(6) Are there alternatives to using my personal cell phone to call people back?

Cisco Jabber is a software client that allows you to use your District phone line(s) to send/receive calls, check voicemail, and access other phone related features from your desktop or mobile device.

Please follow the steps in this guide to download, install and use Cisco Jabber:

If you do not have an existing District phone line - you can also use a Zoom session. You would need to have a Zoom account for this to work.

Alternatively, for calls within the District - we also recommend using a voice or video call through Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams is an Office 365 product available to all district employees.

To access Microsoft Teams, go to https://teams.microsoft.com/ and log on using your email address and password.

Instructions to make a voice or video call through Microsoft Teams can be found below:
