RSCCD Chancellor Marvin Martinez Appointed to College Board’s National Board of Trustees

The College Board has appointed Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) Chancellor Marvin Martinez to its Board of Trustees as a National Trustee, a distinction reserved for visionary leaders who bring invaluable experience and perspectives from schools, districts, and universities across the country.

The Board of Trustees, composed of 31 members, serves as the primary governing body of the College Board, a not-for-profit organization that connects millions of students to college success and opportunity. Trustees are entrusted with critical responsibilities, including approving the organization’s mission, annual budget, and strategic goals, as well as advising the CEO on initiatives that shape the future of education nationwide.

Upon hearing the news of his appointment, Chancellor Martinez stated, “This is more than an honor, it’s an opportunity to amplify the voices of community college students on a national stage. I look forward to working with fellow trustees to expand access, champion equity, and strengthen pathways that lead to college and career success. Our students deserve every opportunity to thrive, and this role allows me to advocate for them at the highest level.”

Martinez’s appointment underscores RSCCD’s growing influence in shaping educational policy and practice. As one of California’s largest community college districts, RSCCD serves over 171,000 students annually through credit and non-credit programs that transform lives, providing associate degrees, transfer pathways, career education, and workforce training. This leadership role positions RSCCD to contribute to national conversations on affordability, access, and innovation in higher education, benefiting not only students but also faculty, staff, and the broader community.

Beyond education, RSCCD’s impact includes higher lifetime earnings for graduates, increased business productivity, and cost savings for students and families, a testament to the district’s commitment to economic and social progress. Chancellor Martinez’s voice on the College Board will help ensure these benefits resonate far beyond Southern California, influencing policies that open doors for learners everywhere.
