​​Jeff Comminey: Handing Out Assists on the Hardwood and on our Campuses

A Journey Rooted in Service and Dedication

The Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) proudly welcomes its newest officer, Senior District Safety Officer Jeff Comminey, to the team. With an inspiring career path marked by dedication to community safety and mentorship, Officer Comminey brings a wealth of experience and a passion for service to RSCCD.

From Long Beach to Leadership

Born and raised in Long Beach, Officer Comminey’s early years were shaped by a love for sports and community involvement. A graduate of Millikan High School and a basketball player at Cypress College including his best game as a collegiate, ironically against….Santa Ana College.  His athletic talents earned him a scholarship to Waldorf University in Iowa, and he later worked in Security, which laid the foundation for his future in law enforcement.

A Commitment to Higher Education

In 2022, Officer Comminey transitioned to higher education serving on the Campus Safety team at Biola University, a role that deepened his appreciation for working with diverse populations. Married with five children and living in Riverside, he describes the college environment as “a beautiful thing to see,” noting the richness of diversity and the variety of interactions with people from different walks of life. He remarked that his time at Biola University was priceless, “Working at Biola University gave me the tools to be successful in higher education.”

Why RSCCD?

Officer Comminey’s move to RSCCD in November 2024 aligns with his values and goals. “The diversity here is incredible, and the opportunity to serve the community is something I couldn’t pass up,” he shares. He also expressed admiration for the district’s leadership and mission, which he described as being “right in line with my values.”
According to Chief Dave Waters, "Dozens of applicants seek employment with RSCCD each year. We prioritize candidates who have a 'Guardian Mindset' and view their role as protecting and serving the RSCCD community, emphasizing communication, de-escalation tactics, and building community. Officer Comminey clearly demonstrates a strong commitment to community service, relevant experience interacting with diverse populations, and a desire to build positive relationships."

Comminey's enthusiasm extends to his experiences at Santa Ana College (SAC), where he has embraced the camaraderie of his team and the chance to connect with students, staff, and even local transients. “It’s like a brotherhood here. I love the leadership and the relationships I’ve already begun to build. This is where I’m supposed to be.”

Looking Ahead

As Officer Comminey settles into his role; his focus is clear: serving the RSCCD community with accessibility and dedication. “I am here to serve,” he emphasizes. “When someone is in need, I want to be available and commit to this community.”
RSCCD and its students are fortunate to have Senior District Safety Officer Jeff Comminey join their ranks, bringing his unique blend of leadership, compassion, and experience to a district that values diversity and service. Welcome, Officer Comminey!​
