Board commemorates those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001
and recognizes eight local first responders for their service
(Santa Ana, CA) - At today’s Board of Trustees meeting, the Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) Board of Trustees commemorated those who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks and honored the following eight local first responders for their service:
- Battalion Chief Craig Covey – Orange County Fire Authority
- Corporal Alex Lopez – City of Santa Ana Police Department
- Sergeant Jude King – City of Orange Police Department
- Officer Nicholas Provencio - City of Santa Ana Police Department\
- Keith Benjamin – Senior Armed District Safety Officer, Santa Ana College
- Sergeant Ray Wert – District Safety & Security, Santa Ana College
- Tiffany Tingirides – Senior Armed District Safety Officer, Santiago Canyon College
- Sergeant Mike Jensen, District Safety & Security, Santiago Canyon College
“Our Rancho Santiago Community College District officers, as well as those local police officers and firefighters in the communities within our district, are ready and able every day to do what is necessary to protect our students,” stated RSCCD Chancellor Marvin Martinez. “On behalf of the Rancho Santiago Community College District, the Board of Trustees honors and expresses appreciation to the first responders who work to ensure the safety of our students and communities. With a safe and secure environment, our students are able to work hard to fulfill their dreams and become productive members of our community.”
RSCCD Board of Trustees Resolution 19-20 affirms that:
- The events of September 11, 2001, have led to a heightened appreciation of those first responders who protect the public.
- Since 9/11, both man-made and natural disasters have reaffirmed the importance and courage of these essential public servants.
- Orange County and the Rancho Santiago Community College District rely on first responders to respond to dangerous fires, floods, earthquakes, and other natural and man-made disasters and incidents.
- The RSCCD has a proud 47-year history with Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy, and the Santa Ana College Fire Academy administered under the guidance of the Orange County Fire Chiefs’ Association.
