Santa Ana College Addresses Students’ Basic Needs through Dons’ Corner

(Santa Ana, Calif.) — Santa Ana College (SAC) students who need assistance overcoming food insecurity are invited to visit Dons’ Corner, Thursday, February 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m., in the Village Quad.

Santa Ana College, in partnership with the Orange County Food Bank, created the monthly program to help ensure students’ most basic needs are met, improving their opportunity to succeed.

According to a survey released by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and The Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice last March, more than half the students attending a California community college have trouble affording balanced meals or worry about running out of food. And nearly one in five are either homeless or do not have a stable place to live.

Dons’ Corner is available to all Santa Ana College students, credit and noncredit. Participants provide their name and address and will select options that include fruits, canned goods, snacks, as well as non-perishable items for free. Additionally, information about CalFresh will be available.

Dons’ Corner is scheduled for the last Thursday of the month throughout the spring semester. For more information, contact SAC’s Student Life at 714-564-6208.
