The College was also awarded “Honor Roll” status based on employee feedback

(Orange, CA) -- For the fifth consecutive year, Santiago Canyon College (SCC) has been selected as one of “The Great Colleges to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education. SCC was also awarded “Honor Roll” status for the fifth consecutive year.

This year, SCC was one of 85 nationwide institutions recognized as “2019 Great Colleges to Work For” which included 60 four-year institutions and 25 two-year institutions. Additionally, SCC was one of 42 schools awarded Honor Roll status which recognizes high employee ratings across multiple categories.

“The institutions recognized in this year’s “Great Colleges to Work For” program don’t wait for problems to occur to pay attention to their people,” said ModernThink senior consultant Rich Boyer. “Conversely, they’re intentional (and successful!) in being good stewards of their institutions’ cultures and shaping the day-to-day experience of their faculty and staff to the ultimate benefit of their students.”

Drawing institutional data from colleges and the U.S. Department of Education, ModernThink LLC, on behalf of The Chronicle, surveyed 236 institutions – 152 four-year and 84 two-year – to determine two- and four-year college excellence in specific categories. SCC was recognized for its: Collaborative Governance; Compensation and Benefits; Confidence in Senior Leadership; Diversity; Facilities, Workspace and Security; Job Satisfaction and Support; Professional/Career Development Programs; Respect and Appreciation; Teaching Environment and Work/Life Balance.

“These designations, based on employee feedback, honor those institutions that The Chronicle considers to be the 'best of the best,' said SCC President Dr. John Hernandez. “To be recognized in 10 of the 11 two-year college categories is a testament to SCC’s reputation for delivering high-quality education due, in large part, to the faculty, staff and administrators who have chosen to contribute their talents to enrich our school and who are confident that they are making a difference in the lives of our students every day.”

Methodology:
The Great Colleges program included a two-part assessment process: a survey (ModernThink Higher Education Insight Survey©) administered to faculty, administrators, exempt professional and non-exempt staff, as well as adjuncts at two-year colleges; and an institutional questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies and practices from each institution. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received a "Great College to Work For" recognition was the employee feedback.
