(Orange, CA) – Santiago Canyon College (SCC) today announced the opening of its new, state-of-the-art piano lab. The lab consists of a new teaching system comprised of a Yamaha computer system and 24 additional new keyboards.
Featuring innovative controllers and individual headphones, the new communications system will enable instructors to effectively teach students at a variety of different skill levels.
“This new automated system enables the instructor to monitor and interact with each student individually, while other students remain undisturbed,” said Binh Vu, D.M.A., Chair of SCC’s Performing Arts Department. “The system allows us to effectively group students according to their abilities which makes it ideal for novice instruction, professional instruction and every skill level between.”
The creation and design of the lab was spearheaded SCC’s Vice President Dr. Arlene Satele, Dean David Vakil, and Facilities Manager Chuck Wales.
SCC’s piano program is taught by concert pianist, Dr. Kelly Cho.
