Adult Basic Education Classes Are Rewarding, Flexible, And Free!

8/24/2012

Fall Classes Start on August 27

(Santa Ana)—Broadening your horizons and improving your employability have never been easier. Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) provides continuing education programs through Santa Ana and Santiago Canyon Colleges that are free, non-credit and nearby. Courses have flexible hours with an open/entry, open/exit policy and an abundance of services so adult learners can reach their goals. Programs include adult basic education, citizenship, English as a Second Language (ESL), high school completion, general education development (GED), business and vocational skills.

These free, non-credit classes are staffed with qualified teachers who give students instruction at their own pace. Instructors are always available to answer any questions and help students when necessary. Day and evening classes are offered at convenient community locations, and the open/entry, open/exit format allows students to enroll at anytime during the semester.

In addition to literacy, the ESL program helps non-English-speaking to limited English-speaking adults improve their communications skills and acquire a cultural understanding for daily living in an English-speaking community. Instruction includes getting a job, obtaining medical help when necessary, and understanding basic government rules. This program provides a great foundation for other opportunities such as adult basic education, adult high school diploma, GED preparation, vocational programs, computer software classes, and college credit classes.

The adult basic education (ABE) program offers a combination of individualized and small group instruction that allows students to work at their own pace. The program helps students improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and also prepares students for higher education courses.

By popular demand, the Division of Continuing Education also offers employment training, computer skills, and leadership courses. There are extensive counseling services available to enrolled students providing academic guidance, career planning, and personal counseling.

Rancho Santiago Community College District’s two main continuing education centers include Santa Ana College’s (SAC) Centennial Education Center (CEC), located at 2900 Edinger Ave. in Santa Ana, and Santiago Canyon College’s Orange Education Center (OCE), located at 1465 N. Batavia St. in Orange. Classes are also offered in more than 45 community sites throughout Santa Ana and Orange.

For more information regarding RSCCD’s continuing education programs, contact Centennial Education Center at (714) 241-5700 or Orange Education Center at (714) 628-5900. Information is available online at www.sac.edu and www.sccollege.edu.
