*Road closures, traffic detours affect vehicle circulation*
(Santa Ana)—Beginning in late December, some vehicle circulation, parking, and pedestrian pathways changes became evident on the Santa Ana College (SAC) campus. These traffic modifications are part of a three-phase construction project that will be completed by May 2013.
Included in the first phase that runs until January 28, are the following traffic flow changes on and near the SAC campus
- The College Avenue campus entrance at 17th Street will open January 14.
- The Bristol Street campus entrance will be closed to allow for reconfiguration of that entrance
- Students and employees are asked to enter and exit the campus using one of the following alternate entrances: Pacific Avenue via Washington Avenue, College Avenue via 17th Street, or the main entrance on 17th Street.
Additional traffic flow changes that begin on February 4 and run through May 17 include:
- The campus frontage road and sidewalk will be closed from Phillips Hall to the Chavez Building.
- Parking lot #5 and the easternmost part of lot #6 will be unavailable for parking during this timeframe. Staff parking will be temporarily relocated to the western portion of lot #6. Students and staff should allow extra time to park and walk to their classes and work locations during this time.
Additional changes will affect campus traffic through June 2013:
- Access to Parking Lot #13 will no longer be available via College Avenue.
- Campus Drive, the interior east-west campus road, and College Avenue will be open to provide access to Parking Lot #12.
“Although work on additional campus perimeter improvement projects may cause some short-term inconveniences, a renewed and beautiful Santa Ana College will benefit the entire community,” said Erlinda J. Martinez, Ed.D., SAC president. “We are excited about these improvements and those to come thanks to Measure Q and our community’s strong support of Santa Ana College.”
These campus improvements are funded by Measure E, a $337 million general obligation bond, passed by voters in 2002 to renovate existing campus buildings and construct new classrooms. By law, Measure E funds must be spent on construction and renovation projects and cannot be spent on instructional programs or administrative, faculty or staff salaries.
