Santa Ana College Opens New Adult Education Center

Center will help students transition from adult education to college credit programs

and raise career opportunities

(Santa Ana, CA)—The Santa Ana College Adult Education Center opens on Monday, August 29, to serve and meet the educational needs of students seeking English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), a high school diploma, GED, or short-term career and technical education instruction.

“The Santa Ana College Adult Education Center will be a model for meeting students’ educational needs and helping them transition from adult education to college credit programs then to employment. The center will have an emphasis on accelerated noncredit programs that are aligned with the credit programs at the college. Emphasis will be placed on the pathway between adult education programs and college programs that lead to a degree or a career and technical education certificate. We anticipate the Santa Ana College Adult Education Center to be a major pathway for new students to Santa Ana College while also meeting the community need for expanded adult education offerings,” said Jim Kennedy, vice president of Continuing Education for Santa Ana College.

A full slate of classes is being offered in its 11 non-credit classrooms including English for Work, High School Diploma, GED Test Preparation, Business Skills, numerous levels of ESL and even a class on Attitudes of Success. Funding for this new center comes from state and regional block grant support.

The college welcomes many new students to the center, which is located in the former Middle College High School Building. The Middle College High School program has temporarily been relocated to classrooms in the Village as a result of construction. The School of Continuing Education Office is located adjacent to the Campus Village, across from the former Middle College High School building, and is open from Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Fridays, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For more information about the center and its programs, and to enroll, call (714) 564-6173.
